Religious impact on medical cannabis, attitudes and beliefs in Russia.

Russia is one of the countries where any use of cannabis is still illegal and strictly prohibited. Not only is the government against the use of marijuana, but religious institutions in Russia are as well. Nowadays, religion in Russia plays an increasingly prominent role in society. However despite the role of religion in Russian society, along with harsh penalties from the government, cannabis appears to be the most commonly used illicit substance in the country. Consequently, there is a lack of knowledge in the science of cannabis and its medical purposes. A recent study indicates that students with a religious affiliation were significantly more likely to express negative attitudes towards medical cannabis.
